While I do enjoy the finer things in life, I consider myself to be more low-maintenance than meets the eye. Of course I rather be in a hammock on the balcony of a 5-star hotel suite overlooking Turtle Bay than in a tent somewhere in the woods amongst fire ants. But if I’m going camping I have no problems getting dirty, and I lied, I rather be on the beach instead of in a hammock.
There’s very few frivolous things I can’t live without (and when I say can’t live without, I say it frivolously as well). For the most part, as long as things are sanitary and I won’t get shot, I’m good. However, I think everyone is allowed at least a few unnecessary necessities in life and the following are some of mine:
1) Mani/Pedi: If it’s within my budget, I try to get my nails done twice a month or whenever it starts growing out and looking gross. I used to do my own nails all the time in high school until I got my first manicure/pedicure in college and have been hooked ever since. I could definitely save a lot of money and come up with better designs if I did them myself but it’s the easiest way for me to pamper myself without dropping a bill and then some at Burke Williams. #gallery-3410-1 { margin: auto; } #gallery-3410-1 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 50%; } #gallery-3410-1 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-3410-1 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
2) Eyebrow Threading: My favorite part of my face used to be my eyes. Wow, that sounds vain. Then, I used to really like my smile. Ok, even more vain. But now, I think my favorite feature are my eyebrows. They were the thickest in life prior to college and I always got made fun of for it. But I love them now, and love getting them threaded because it gives me the cleanest and most precise results.
3) Bikini Wax: Last on my list is getting the cho-cha waxed. Even when I’m not going on a tropical vacation or seeing someone new, it’s still a must, just not as frequent. Because the only thing I hate more than shaving my armpits, is shaving the Netherlands. It feels gross afterwards and my skin is super sensitive to it. Waxing hurts and can be costly, not to mention it seems pretty ridiculous considering no one will ever notice unless they’re deep sea diving down there anyway BUT it just looks and feels so much cleaner. And I’m sorry, but you’re not going to get a picture for #3 lol. Nice try though.
Like I said, the above are for the most part, unnecessary. But they’re necessary for my own well-being. At least the petty side of it. I can skip hair appointments, and walk out the house in sweats as long as my nails and toes are right and still feel fresh. It’s all about the details, and it just makes me feel good 🙂
Man or woman, what seemingly insignificant things are significant to your life? I feel a blog about upkeep musts I expect in the opposite sex now, hmmm …
