She Knew.

She knew she would love him. It wasn’t love at first sight, but she knew she would love him the first day she saw him. Long strides, and slanted eyes at church. Although she doesn’t remember the exact day or time, she did to no surprise. And still does to this very day.

She knew she loved him on the beach. She knew this because she was hungover, and had no makeup on. Yet, he made her feel beautiful. Her head was in his lap and the sun kissed her face when he didn’t. She loved him as she drifted off to sleep, and still loved him when she woke up.

She knew she loved him when a single tear fell from his eye and he tried to hide it. So vulnerable, so tortured – so stunning. She found beauty in his pain, and strength in his weakness. It was in this low point, she saw him at his highest.

She knew she loved him the moment he walked through her gate. She could see his blue eyes and pearly whites clearly through the December mist. He carried a single rose, and her, a heavy feeling in her heart that was only lifted when she wrapped her arms around him.

She knew she loved him the moment she wondered if she loved him. Although not ideal, or reciprocated. An unfortunate discovery that she hated to admit, but she did. Because he showed her so much more by showing her less than she deserved. He gave her the world, by giving her nothing. He gave her perspective by being close minded. She recognized what she needed by realizing it wasn’t him. And she wanted to slap him and kiss him, and thank him and shun him all at the same time.

You see, I love you. Too. I just had to hate you first in order to realize it.
