50 and Fabulous!

A very special happy birthday shout out to my moms! Good God, if I look half as beautiful as her when I’m that age I have nothing to worry about. I truly believe the key to her youth is her sense of humor – she is fucking HILARIOUS. I’m so glad to know that goofyness has no age limit.

I took my mom out for seafood and peruvian at La Mar right on the Embarcadero yesterday. Honestly, the food was good but not great. Still, it was good enough for me to give it a second chance and come back to try something else. The price range was definitely on point though. We had two rounds of drinks, two appetizers, and two entrees that came up to only $114!

Causa Nikei which is tuna tartare on top of purple potato, and Huancaina sauce.

Mom's Cebiche Mixto: Yellowtail, calamari, and shrimp w/ habanero, Peruvian corn, and cilantro.

Seared scallops, mussels, clams, and potatoes over caramalized onion risotto bka Cau Cau.

Mom's Arros Criollo which is a Peruvian type of fried rice.

I would like to commend the staff at La Mar for paying attention to detail. I made a reservation for two online at Open Table and under “Special instructions” wrote, “It’s my moms birthday so if you can include a candle with dessert that would be awesome!” When it was time to order dessert my mom didn’t see anything she liked, but I was surprised that they actually got the message and brought out a dessert plate with a candle in it.

All in all I’d give it a 3.5 out of 5, which doesn’t sound like much. But I would definitely suggest it for anyone who wants seafood and a nice view of the water.

I swear I feel like the mom most of the time.
